Gulf County Information Technology
The role of the Gulf County Information Technology Department is to ensure that all electronic and data services are operational on a daily basis for all of the employees of Gulf County Board of County Commissioners without interruptions. The County IT Director is responsible for the Board’s Wired and Wireless Data Network, Cloud Services, Camera Systems, Cell Phones, Printers, Computers, Laptops, Tablets and Servers. We also maintain the IP Phone System for all of the Gulf County Governmental offices.
The IT Director also advises department heads on which equipment and software they should purchase as well as doing research on upcoming projects to ensure the timely and correct end results. This can include wiring (Fiber or Copper), hardware and software for those projects.
Our work area covers both ends of the county and many points in between. Our normal hours of operation are Monday thru Thursday 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.
JOB NOTICE
Computer Technician
Gulf County Board of County Commissioners is currently seeking a qualified candidate for a Computer Technician opening. This is a full-time position, Monday through Thursday, 10 hours a day, 40 hours per week with a 30-minute lunch break.
The primary responsibilities involved with this position include assisting the Technology Department in the implementation, maintenance and support of technology hardware and software in county buildings. Additional duties will be assisting with the maintenance of Electronic Gates and Doors, CATV Camera Systems, Cellular and VoIP Phone Systems, installing Network Cabling (Copper and Fiber), Streaming County Meetings and other duties as needed to maintain the data and voice communications for the county.
Minimum qualifications include:
High School Diploma (An associate’s degree in computer/technology-related field is highly preferable)
A+, Network+, Security + would be useful but are not required
Knowledge of Computer Hardware and Operating Systems
Knowledge of Computer Wiring
Knowledge of Computer Networks and their operation
We would prefer a candidate who is technically proficient with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office 365, along with Computer and Network Hardware but will consider all applicants.
Basic Electrical Skills
A valid state issued Driver’s License
Interpersonal, Human Relations, Organizational, and Communication Skills are a must.
Essential Physical Abilities:
The ability to work with little supervision
Ability to hear with 40 decibel loss maximum and see with acuity of at least 20 feet normal depth perception, field of vision and accommodation
Ability to reach above and below the waist; walk and use fingers to pick, feel, and grasp items; Use of both hands for repetitive motion and bending and twisting of the body
Ability to lift/carry supplies and objects weighing no more than 40 lbs
Ability to sit or stand eighty percent (80%) of workday
Ability to work from ladders
Ability to work with Hand Tools
Ability to work in enclosed areas such as ceilings and attics
Ability to work under desks and in tight spaces

At Gulf County the IT Department is a small tight knit group of techs working in a close environment. We share our burdens and workloads among ourselves. It is important for the proper candidate to understand that working together is the best way to solve problems. The ideal IT technician must be able to ask for help when necessary and to understand that there are no stupid questions, only questions that need answers.
