please dial 9-1-1.
HISTORY OF THE 911 SYSTEM
The first 911 system was installed in Haleyville, Alabama in February 1968 as a way to quickly connect a subscriber to the local police station. This system did not identify the caller but did provide a means to access emergency services that had not previously been available. This system was quickly adapted and improved by other telephone companies to become the E911 system which provides both caller location and identification. A pioneering system was in place in Chicago by the mid-1970s providing both police and fire departments access to the source location of emergency calls.

ALERTGULF
EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM
AlertGulf is a telephonic community notification system that utilizes a combination of database and GIS technologies to deliver outbound messages. In the event of an emergency, the system is accessible from any location that can access the Internet. Notifications can be generated in a recorded vocal format or in a text-to-speech format for quicker message delivery. GIS technology integrates the ENS with geo-coded contact data (that can be uploaded from customer databases and/or local telephone companies) and intelligent street centerline data. This allows for precise message delivery to a specific geographic region. This feature is vital in the many events such as mandatory evacuations, severe weather warnings, and shelter-in-place instructions during hazardous materials spills.
